What the research examined
STEP-HFpEF DM investigated symptom and functional endpoints in participants with obesity-related heart failure and type 2 diabetes. SELECT studied major cardiovascular events in a different population with established cardiovascular disease, overweight or obesity, and no diabetes. The reports address different clinical questions.
How to interpret the findings
Symptom scores, walking distance, and cardiovascular events are not interchangeable outcomes. Population differences and adverse-event discontinuations must accompany efficacy findings when interpreting these trials.
