A clinical pharmacokinetic investigation measured exposure to several oral medicines in the presence of oral semaglutide. The measured exposure to ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel was not meaningfully altered, while findings differed for some other medicines examined.
How to interpret the findings
Drug-concentration measurements are not a direct test of contraceptive effectiveness. The formulation, study population, and medicines examined constrain the findings; this paper does not establish a rule for every GLP-1 medicine or clinical situation.
